Matthew’s conference and keynote talks reflect his love of reading and books. His lively presentation manner engages those working with children, namely teachers, librarians, child care providers and PARENTS of students preK-6th. (He’s great with Spanish-speaking parents who may be new to literacy customs!) Linguistically diverse communities appreciate Matthew’s literacy message: when we nurture a child’s love of reading, we empower them to pursue their dreams and become lifelong learners. This message resonates with audiences of all backgrounds–from professionals as far away as Singapore and Hong Kong to agricultural workers California’s Central Valley! Matthew speaks English, Spanish and Japanese. So he has learned over and over again how reading promotes language development. An award-winning author, publisher, storyteller and parent, he draws on his unique background to meet audiences “where they are.” Matthew has given keynotes at national and statewide conferences including the International Literacy Association (ILA), Texas Library Association (TLA), California Reading Association (CRA), Massachusetts Reading Association, North Carolina Reading Association, Teachers for Tomorrow, California School Library Association (CSLA), California Association for Bilingual Education (CABE), Head Start, and Migrant Education Even Start (MEES). Depending on the timing and size of your conference, he may be able to contribute more than one presentation. He can tailor keynote addresses to anywhere from 20–60 minutes; then, for example, provide a “break-out” session depending on times and logistics. “Thank you, asante sana, merci and muchas gracias for your WONDERFUL presentation. We loved it! Your enthusiasm was energizing, and we appreciated your statistics. It was such a treat to have you here in Hollister. My colleagues were so happy and they are still talking about the event.”
